You can add Devin Vanterpool to the ever-growing list of fire transfer singings for Bryan Hodgson and the Providence Friars. Vanterpool became the fourth commit of the brand new Hodgson era in just five days (five commits if you want to include Ryan Mela announcing he’s coming back for his Junior year).
Vanterpool adds yet another two-way player to the roster and comes to Providence with two years of eligibility remaining after initially redshirting his first year at Florida Atlantic University. He’s also yet another commit who earned some all-conference accolades with his play last season, winning the AAC Most Improved Player and being named to the All-AAC Third Team, despite having to shut things down with an ankle injury for the last seven conference games of the season. The former Owl more than quadrupled his playing time from his first to his second year, from 7.9 minutes per game to 31.2. He was able to translate that opportunity into some impressive numbers across the board.

His points per game increased by almost 14 ppg, while he also improved his turnover rate by almost 7% despite having the ball in his hand much more and leading his team in scoring. His usage rate from his freshman to sophomore season stayed steady (25.3%) but his efficiency numbers improved dramatically in every shooting phase. Vanterpool is Known for his downhill aggression, utilizing his 6’4″ frame to finish at the rim, evidenced by a 30-point performance against Coastal Georgia where he scored 12 field goals, many coming from paint touches and fast breaks.
I can safely proclaim that the one attribute that Bryan Hodgson and his staff are looking for is…versatility.
Sharks keep doing Shark things.
I’m not the only one who loves it either…
