With the Friars in dire need of some shooting to add to their rotation for the upcoming season, Rich Barron answers the call to fill the void and officially commits to transferring to Providence.
I’m going with Rich instead of Richard based on his personal twitter even though all the scouting sites and such list him as Richard. Barron becomes the third George Mason player to follow their former (now current again) coach Kim English to Providence following the commitments of Josh Oduro & Justyn Fernandez. Barron entered the transfer portal following the departure of English to PC back on March 27th and quickly made his decision to continue his career in Friartown.
Barron is a member of the 2023 class and played his High School ball in Chicago at St. Ignatius. He will join Donovan Santoro and redshirt Freshman Quante Berry as the third member of the 2023 class for Providence. He was a first-team all-state selection and has some good size for a 2-guard, measuring 6’5” and 220 pounds. His jumper is smooth with a pretty release and he’s got some fire in him, ready to talk shit at a moment’s notice based on his Senior Year High School highlights.
Prior to committing to George Mason, Barron had offers from DePaul, Kent State, Loyola Chicago, and Milwaukee Wisconsin.
Providence is in need of shooters and based on the scouting reports for Barron, that’s exactly what he brings to the table.
Welcome to Friartown my guy!
