The Friar Four of Kyron Cartwright, Rodney Bullock, Jalen Lindsey, and Tommy Planek closed out their Senior Year with a Senior Night victory over St. John’s to close out the the Big East regular season for the Providence Friars.

The Friars almost let this must-win game slip away near the end but were able to put things together to finish in fifth place for the Big East Tournament this year.

Providence actually excelled at the free throw line to close things out, going 8 of 10 down the stretch to finish off St. John’s.

Game Notes:

  • Bryan Molloy made the sick as hell shirt for Senior Night that the first 2,000 fans got to take home with them.

  • Have to love the emotions on Senior Day.
  • Rodney Bullock and Alpha Diallo tied for the team lead in scoring for the game, each recording 13 points.  It’s too bad that it wasn’t easy to come by as they went a combined 8-21 from the field.
  • They did record 8 and 7 rebounds respectively to make up a little for the poor shooting though.
  • Cartwright also scored in double-figures, scoring 10 points on the night.  Unfortunately, he had the reverse stats for his assists and turnovers, recording only 2 assists to 7 turnovers for the game.
  • But who gives a shit because Cartwright also had his first dunk ever in a game.  I couldn’t fucking believe it when I saw it.
  • Kalif Young played just 7 minutes and didn’t record a point.
  • Jalen Lindsey was 0-3 from three and only scored 4 points in 27 minutes.
  • Off the bench, Nate Watson scored 9 points in 18 minutes on 4-5 shooting.  Man, I love me some Nate Watson.
  • Maliek White and Isaiah Jackson had 6 points each off the pine.
  • Maliek White is going to be my favorite player next year.  I’m calling it now.
  • Nate Watson.  Block.  With Attitude.
  • Sophomore Guard Justin Simon played all 40 minutes for St. John’s, recording a double-double and falling 1 assist short of a triple-double.  Unfortunately, that double-double consisted of 13 points and 10 turnovers.  Simon handed out 9 assists and still somehow didn’t finish with a positive assist to turnover ratio.
  • Maybe the best part of the game was this student making the halftime put for 8 grand.

Next Up, the Friars go to New York City for the Big East Tournament and take on Creighton in the 4/5 game on Thursday at 2:30 PM.
