Since becoming the Head Coach of the Providence College Men’s Soccer Team, Craig Stewart has taken the Friars to an entire new level as a program.  Stewart has coached 5 years at PC (3 previous at Franklin Pierce) and in that short amount of time he has become the most successful coach in the history of PC Men’s Soccer.

Stewart is 55-35-11 all-time at Providence and has led the Friars to three NCAA tournament births (2013, 2014, & 2016), as well as a Big East Tournament Championship (2014) and Big East Regular Season Championship (2016).  He has also led his squads to the College Cup in 2014 and the Elite Eight in 2016.

Not to mention, his accent is fucking awesome (I can’t say that enough).

Bob Driscoll talking about the extension here:

“We believe Craig is one of the top soccer coaches in the nation and we are excited that he will continue to lead our men’s soccer program.  In two of the last three seasons, Craig has guided our team deep into the NCAA Tournament as the Friars  advanced to the College Cup in 2014 [Semifinals] and the Elite Eight [Quarterfinals] in 2016.  He also has led our team to a BIG EAST title [2014] and a BIG EAST Regular Season title [2016].  Craig is such a dynamic leader.  He has a high knowledge of the game and an ability to get the most out of his team.  Those qualities, as well as his skill at recruiting at a high level, have made him a top-level collegiate soccer coach.”

Craig Stewart’s reaction to the extension:

“It is a great honor to lead the men’s soccer program at Providence College.  I wish to thank Bob Driscoll and Father Shanley for the opportunity and the continued support along the way.  I feel very fortunate to work alongside such a great team of coaches, support staff and administrators who provide our student-athletes the platform to be successful both on and off the field.  With Anderson Stadium quickly becoming one of the top college soccer venues in the country, we feel we have everything we need to compete for a National Championship and hopefully we can continue to make our alumni, school and community proud in our pursuit of that goal.”

The Friars now have a Men’s Basketball Coach in Ed Cooley and a Men’s Soccer Coach in Craig Stewart who believe that Providence College is the job that was made for them.  They’re not trying to use it as a springboard to a larger school.  They have both taken the respective programs, helped rise them to the next level, and represent the culture and family that Providence College strives to instill in their student-athletes.  They are both the perfect fits for their two teams.
