Providence College Friars Goalie Tate Boyce has signed with the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL). Although Boyce went undrafted in the 2019 MLL Draft, he was still a very highly touted prospect after a stellar career in Friartown.
Boyce played in 62 career games at Providence, finishing his lacrosse career with a .546 career save percentage and 9.57 goals against average. Boyce left PC with the most saves in the school’s history with an astounding 702 over his four years with the Friars.
Amongst his collegiate accolades, Boyce was a named as a four-time All-Big East First Team Selection (the first ever in the history of Providence College) and a two-time Goalkeeper of the Year for the Big East (another first for PC). Just as important as the athletic achievements, Boyce was also earned Big East All-Academic Team honors three times.
A nice little tidbit from Friars.com also mentioned his selection as a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award:
“Perhaps the honor that best defines him is his selection as a finalist for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate lacrosse. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in the four domains of community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS award focuses on the total student-athlete.”
After this past season, Boyce was named as an All-American Honorable Mention, making that the 2nd time he has been named to the College Lacrosse All-American Teams.
Another impressive honor to add to Boyce’s resume! Congrats to our guy on becoming a 2x All-American #GoFriars pic.twitter.com/Af9iC0OOPm
