
Former Providence Friar men’s soccer player Brendan McSorely has signed a short-term loan agreemeent with St. Louis City SC from the soccer club’s reserve team, St. Louis City 2 (aka City2) of the MLS Next Pro League.
McSorely, a Forward from Randolph, NJ, played four years in Friartown, tallying 23 goals and 5 assists over 62 games. In McSorely’s Senior season, the striker put up an impressive 11 goals in 17 games, earning him First Team All-Big East honors. During the season McSorely recorded another number of accolades including being named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll (10/2/23), earning the title of Big East Offensive Player of the Week (10/23/23), being recognized as College Soccer News Men’s National Player of the Week (10/23/23), being named to the the All-Big East Tournament Team, and being named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East 2nd Team.
Following his collegiate career in Providence, St. Louis SC drafted McSorely in the 3rd round of the MLS SuperDraft with the 79th overall pick.
After being selected in the MLS SuperDraft, McSorely singed a two-year MLS Next Pro contract with St. Louis’ reserve club.
Per MLS rules, the short-term agreement allows clubs to sign players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate for MLS, U.S. Open Cup, CONCACAF Champions League, Canadian Championship, and exhibition matches. McSorely saw his MLS debut for St. Louis City SC on June 19th against the Colorado Rapids, which was his fourth and final call-up from the reserve club (An individual player may be included on up to four MLS league season match rosters each season, however, that player may appear in no more than two MLS league season matches. An individual player may appear in any number of non-league games during the terms of his four Short-Term Agreements.).
