As reported by Senior NBA Insider Chris Haynes, Kris Dunn plans to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers.
There have been no contract details released yet but it looks like Kris Dunn has found a new home in L.A. following playing the last two seasons with the Utah Jazz. After being waived by the Memphis Grizzlies in October of 2021, Dunn found himself on the outside of the league, looking in.
Towards the end of the 2022 season, Dunn signed back-to-back 10-day contracts with the Portland Trailblazers before signing a contract to remain with the team for the remainder of the season. The next year, Dunn once again signed back-to-back 10-day contract, this time with the Utah Jazz before signing on for the remainder of the 2023 season again as well. After performing extremely well through the end of the for the Jazz (13.2 ppg, 5.6 apg, 4.1 rpg, 1.1 spg with 53.7%/47.2%/77.4% shooting splits over the course of 22 games – 25.8 mpg), Utah signed Dunn to a fully guaranteed contract for the 2023-2024 NBA season that saw him play in 66 games last year, starting 32 of them, before the team wanted to give a bunch of the younger guys some more run to get a look at how they were developing.
The Clippers have been seemingly scooping up every good defensive player they can get their hands with the departure of Paul George to the Philadelphia 76ers suddenly freeing up a massive amount of available salary.
The Clips will certainly not be lacking on the defensive side of the ball next year and will be even better if (and it is always the BIGGEST if) Kawhi Leonard can stay healthy. Dunn has fixed the one previous liability of his game, three-point shooting, consistently hitting open threes while with the Jazz over the last two season, to the tune of 39.5% from deep (58/147).
The Clippers are reportedly looking to potentially move on from Russell Westbrook as well which would open up a lot of minutes in the backcourt for next year and with James Harden re-signing to stay in L.A., the dire need for a defensive-minded guard partner to be on the floor as well.
