Four-Star Forward Jaylen Harrell Commits to Kim English and the Friars

Jaylen Harrell announced his commitment to the Providence Friars live on the On3 Recruits YouTube channel with On3’s own Joe Tipton.

The 2025 Forward and Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year who plays at CATS Academy selected the Friars over the likes of Rutgers, Xavier, Alabama, Virginia Tech, & Kansas. Harrell was originally supposed to announce his college decision back in May but made the decision to hold off his commitment announcement to make sure he gave the decision the utmost thought with those close to him.

This postponement came after Harrell made an official visit to Xavier which certainly made Friar fans a little uneasy due to the timing of everything. But no need to worry any longer for those in Friartown. Kim English and his staff continue to absolutely CRUSH it on the recruiting trail with commitments from Oswin Erhunmwunse (reclassifying from 2025 to 2024), Jamier Jones, and now Jaylen Harrell in just the last couple of months.

Much like the other two recent commits, Oswin & Jamier, Jaylen has consistently been seen on campus and at The Amp to watch the Friars in action. Harrell is listed as a Top-100 recruit on most recruiting sites at the moment, typically hovering right around that 90-100 ranking. Harrell stands at 6’5” and 210 pounds, fitting right into the switch-ability style that Kim English loves to play.

“I chose Providence because it felt like a family over there. I love the coaching staff and I feel like Kim is my big brother. We feel like we have a good shot at winning a national championship.”

We’ve heard this from other recruits recently, but the social media presence of Friartown and PCBC are having an actual tangible impact on the decisions of these young kids.

Harrell is an absolute knockdown shooter and sliding him in next to Jamier Jones with Oswin down low is a something I would sign up for 100 times out of 100. Everything looks so fluid from Harrell and he always puts himself in a position where he is ready to shoot. I love it.

Per usual, FriarBasketball has some great insight from seeing Harrell play in-person and also a breakdown of his shot selection, which you can read here. But, I’ll leave you with a single word from Jayln Harrell himself…
