Top-20 Class of 2025 Recruit Oswin Erhunmwunse Commits to the Providence Friars

After a rough two weeks in which the Providence Friars lost All-Big East star Bryce Hopkins to a torn ACL and are struggling through a 3-game losing streak (Seton Hall, Creighton, & St. John’s), Kim English and Friartown got some much needed good news with the commitment of 2025 big man, Oswin Erhunmwunse.

Oswin is ranked as a Top 20-25 recruit in most recruiting sites and is the highest ranked recruit that Providence has landed in over a decade since the combo signing of Kris Dunn and Ricky Ledo, the backcourt that never was. Kim English has officially made his recruiting statement following the de-commitment of Daquan Davis. Oswin made his announcement with a video on his Twitter (it’s still Twitter to me damnit) page after joining 247Sports to commit live.

Oswin was down to a Final Four including fellow Big East member Creighton, Oklahoma, and Georgia Tech before choosing the Friars but it was reported that it was really a two team race between the Sooners and PC. He had also received offers from the likes of Alabama, Marquette, Rutgers, Washington, Cal, Iowa, Texas Tech, & Wake Forest.

Erhunmwunse, a native Nigerian, is listed as 6’10” and particularly excels on the defensive side of the ball with his length and high level athleticism. The southpaw possesses an explosiveness around the basket and tries to violently dunk anything and everything close to the rim. Oswin is currently a member of the 2025 class but it remains to be seen if he stays there or potentially reclassifies down the road.

Playing his Prep Ball locally at Putnam Science Academy in Putnam, CT, the impressive big has also been a staple at The Amp this season for Friars home games. It’s no surprise then that he wants to take the next step in his career at a place he feels comfortable and at home.

“I want to stay home and be a legend. I know that I can do something special at Providence.”

This could potentially be the first of many big time commitments for the Friars as they have spread their chips across a number of highly ranked recruits including Nigel James, Mikel Brown Jr., Efeosa Oliogu, Jamier Jones, and has been included on the cut down list of schools in play for point guard Jeremiah Fears.

Oswin has a call out to Friar Fans to check out the documentary he’s been involved in about his basketball journey so far…so let’s help a Friar out, shall we?

Welcome to Friartown!
