Ryan Mela signed his National Letter of Intent (NIL) to Providence College on Wednesday, November 8th, officially becoming the lone member of Kim English’s 2024 recruiting class. With the recent decision by Daquan Davis to de-commit from Providence, Mela stands alone as the only remaining player singed up to enroll at PC next Fall.
Mela, a 6’6′ wing from Massachusetts, currently plays for The Newman School and in grassroots with the Middlesex Magic on the Under Armour Circuit. Mela has a solid frame that should be able to adapt quickly to the strength and size of the college game, especially with another year of basketball under his belt before he gets on campus.
Mela originally committed in August and made good on his verbal commit with a written one at the very beginning of the early signing period.
Kim English had some high praise for the incoming recruit:
“We are excited to have Ryan joining our program next season. We believe that he has the potential to be an impact player for us and will be a great addition to our roster next season, and for years to come. Ryan’s humility, toughness, work ethic and talent make him a perfect fit for what we are doing here at PC.”
– Coach Kim English
Mela is about to get his Senior season started this weekend at Emmanuel College along with bunch of other D-I commits in the Boston area. He has been on a consistent upward trajectory but this will be an opportunity for him to show everyone how he stacks up against other high major college recruits.
Mela is a prototypical wing for Kim English’s style of play. He can shoot from the outside but also poses a threat off the dribble with ability to find open shooters on drive-and-kicks. He provides positional versatility with his size and looks like a player that could develop into a perfect fit at the next level.
Congrats Ryan and Welcome to Friartown!
